Ripley Rendezvous

May 9-11, 2025 Scouts from Troop 249 attended the Ripley Rendezvous event at the Camp Ripley National Guard Training Facility near Brainerd. The weekend included down range adventures such as shooting sports, rappelling, HAM radio communications, scout skills development, and visiting the Camp Ripley museum. They built teamwork by completing obstacles at the Leadership Reaction Course, and they got to experience living in military barracks.

Dr. Keith Moench and Conrad Moench successfully completed the Ordeal for introduction to the Order of the Arrow!

As part of the Ordeal
experience, candidates maintain silence, receive small amounts of food, work on camp improvement projects, and sleep apart from other campers. The entire experience is designed to teach significant values. All candidates for membership must complete the Ordeal.

The OA is Scouting’s National Honor Society. As an integral part of Scouting America, the OA delivers peer-led advanced leadership experiences that help to build lifelong bonds through service and enrich each member’s Scouting journey. OA members are defined by the fellowship they share, service to others, commitment to personal growth, and self-driven initiative to make a difference in their community.

Keith and Contrad, Congratulations on this achievement!

March 14-March 16, 2025 Troop 249 went to Lebanon Hills Regional Park and stayed at the Sacajawea Retreat Center.

The Scouts worked on First Aid requirements and other rank requirements. Some time was spent learning about the different ways to start a fire and they practiced fire building skills. The troop took a hike in the wind and rain/snow.  The Scouts had a well organized duty roster and made three awesome meals!  The grilled cheese sandwiches and smash burgers were some of the best we've ever had. They cleaned up well and left the retreat center looking good. All in all it was a fun weekend!

December 2024
Robbie Peterson organized a work day for his Eagle Project. He planned for a team of volunteers build 4 vertical baseball bat storage racks. This project needed at least four work days plus another day for installation of the storage racks. This was a difficult project to lead because of the precision needed in putting the bat boxes together. Materials needed to be cut and painted, then assembled and touch up painted again. Robbie did an outstanding job orchestrating his project!
November 1-3, 2024, Troop 249 spent the weekend at Good Medicine cabin at Fred C Anderson Scout Camp! Good Medicine was the first cabin built on the Fred C. Andersen property. It has a sleeping loft and large fireplace. The scouts participated in a conservation service project for the camp, went hiking, cooked meals, went to the trading post and built a fire. They completed some rank requirements as well. They had a fun and productive weekend!
On Monday, October 28, 2024, Troop 249, with the assistance of the Stillwater Police Department, worked on the Second Class Rank Requirement 7c: Participate in a school, community, or troop program on the dangers of using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco and other practices that could be harmful to your health. Discuss your participation in the program with your family, and explain the dangers of substance addictions. Report to your Scoutmaster or other adult leader in your troop about which parts of the Scout Oath and Scout Law relate to what you learned.

We give a big thanks to the Stillwater Police Department for their assistance in completing this requirement!
